Internships During the School Year
We hire Oxy student interns each semester to assist with our community food systems programs, and often list food-related internship opportunities available through other Oxy departments or partner organizations throughout Los Angeles.

Urban Agriculture Summer Internship
Oxy students can apply for a paid summer internship focused on first hand experience with a community based urban agriculture organization. Applications open in the spring, for any questions email cech@oxy.edu.
Food Studies
Food Studies is a burgeoning, interdisciplinary, inherently politicized field of scholarship, practice, and art that examines the relationship between food and all aspects of the human experience. Food Studies courses taught by UEPI staff include:
- UEP 306: Food and the Environment (core Food Studies course)
- UEP 246: Applied Projects in Sustainability
- UEP 247: Urban Agriculture Practicum



cOMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
FEAST Community Learning Garden
Occidental’s FEAST garden has served Oxy students for over a decade. This project invites NELA community members to join the FEAST garden as a garden and nutrition learning classroom and community compost hub.
Visit Oxy Field Trips for North East LA (NELA) Students
Our team has led field trips for local partner schools to visit Oxy's campus, meet current Oxy students, and engage in hands on activities while visiting.
